Together we are stronger

OCCU  -  06.05.2020

A message from our President & CEO, Ron Neumann:

Let me start by saying emphatically that Black Lives Matter. People of Color Lives Matter.

Inequality and racism exist. OCCU does not and will not tolerate discrimination, racism or unjust behavior. Unfortunately, these are real challenges in our communities, and we all have a responsibility to participate in seeking solutions.

But words aren’t enough. We need to take action to support our communities in ways that are meaningful, in ways that align with our values. Supporting nonprofit organizations or frequenting minority owned businesses. Taking the time to listen, see and understand one another to enact meaningful, peaceful change.

OCCU will continue to be a part of making a difference in the lives of our members, employees and community. We have started conversations with our community partners to see how OCCU may be able to support their efforts to bring people and resources together to make an impact.

I know that many in our communities are feeling a sense of anger, hurt and frustration about the events unfolding around us and that those feelings are unique for each of us. In times like these, it is important that we continue to treat one another with respect, kindness and empathy. Please take the time to check in on others, especially those you know to be more personally or directly impacted by these events.

OCCU is grounded in the philosophy of people helping people. This is something we’ve been committed to for the last 64 years and it’s a commitment that will not change – it’s a part of who we are. As our community begins to work collaboratively through these societal issues and share our voices, I know that together we will achieve more than we could alone. We don’t have all the answers, but we are committed to working together to help us all build a healthier, safer and more equitable tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Ron Neumann
